Four Gospels One Jesus? A symbolic reading edition by Richard Burridge Religion Spirituality eBooks
Interesting treatment of the nature of the Gospels. The introduction is probably the most valuable part of the book as it presents his thesis and the remaining chapters largely just cite the support for that thesis (in other words a typical academic format). Some would see this as challenging the historicity of the Gospels and may accuse Dr. Burridge of a mild form of blasphemy, but his is an attempt to see the Gospels for what they were at the time of the writing, and not what subsequent scholars or activists might make them. Whether he is effective in that is up to the individual reader, but it was a sincere attempt to better understand the Gospels that can be appreciated by believers and deniers alike.Product details

Four Gospels One Jesus? A symbolic reading edition by Richard Burridge Religion Spirituality eBooks Reviews
The book was requied for a Synoptic Gospel course I was enrolled in.
I found it to a great study tool. It points out similarities and differences in the writing styles and approach of the authors. Very helpful as a student.
The book, exactly as described, was in excellent condition and arrived as hoped in time to give to my brother as a Christmas gift. Thank you.

Very interesting perspectives on the four gospels. Great insight and points that can be used for bible studies, or sermon.
I liked it very much!
This was a good read! It was a class requirement but I am so glad it was!
Recently this Anglican scholar has received the Ratzinger award for scripture! He is more "Catholic" than most "catholic" scripture scholars! It is an easy read, very lively in its style and charming. An excellent first book for those studying the Gospels. Highly recommended.
I can't say I was blown away by this book, but I will say that the author presents a unique and clever take on how to better understand each of the four gospels (comparing them to a lion, human, ox and eagle). I enjoyed the analogies but found them to be too simplistic. I could see how a rookie student could oversimplify the Four Gospels and miss out on much of the nuance to be found in each account.
